Petition Season

Petition Season is upon us. Whether this is your first time collectiong signatures or you 20th, candidates need our help to get on the ballot in November. Candidates in both Brooklyn and Staten Island have asked the YRs for our support in their petition efforts.

 

Our own YR Bill Davidson, candidate for State Assembly for AD 50 covering Greenpoint and Williamsburg, needs our help with petitioning. The YRs will be holding 2 official petition blitz days, Sunday June 8th and Saturday June 21st. Please mark those dates on your calendars and email bklynyrs@gmail.com if you can attend either or both of those petition dates. If you want additional information about how to help out Bill, feel free to reach out to him directly, or to Diana Sepulveda.

 

In addition, a friend of our club, Joe Tirone Jr., candidate for State Assembly for AD 63 in Staten Island, has asked for our help with petitioning as well. For more information, please email bklynyrs@gmail.com.

The Brooklyn Republican Party's 2014 Lincoln Day Reception

Please join your fellow YRs for a wonderful event at The Brooklyn Republican Party's 2014 Lincoln Day Reception on Sunday June 22nd. The Brooklyn GOP will be honoring Rob Astorino, Westchester County Executive and Republican candidate for NY Governor, as Man of the Year.

Chairman Craig Eaton has graciously provided members of our Young Republicans club with discounted rates for the luncheon. The rate for Active Members is $100, which is half off the regular luncheon rate, and the rate for Active College Members is $75. Join us for our next monthly meeting this Wednesday, May 21st. We will be talking about helping candidates for State races with their petitioning efforts, which begin on May 29th. We will aslo be discussing the upcoming Brooklyn Republican Party's Lincoln Day Celebration, which will be held on Sunday June 22nd at Garguilo's Restaurant in Coney Island.

Also, a reminder to all members you have not paid your 2014 dues, they can be paid online via the "Pay Now" button on the right or at our meeting. For those who have paid dues to another Brooklyn YR club, we will be honoring those dues paid and waiving the dues requirement for membership to our club.

National Military Appreciation Month

 

National Military Appreciation Month (NMAM) is celebrated every May and is a declaration that encourages U.S. citizens to observe the month in a symbol of unity, to honor the current and former members of the U.S. Armed Forces, including those who have died in the pursuit of freedom. The Brooklyn Young Republicans ask all our club members, friends and family to remember our veterans and current Armed Forces members who have protected our freedoms.

Please keep in mind these key dates during the month of May:

Victory in Europe Day (V-E Day)
Thursday, May 8^th
About: May 8th, 1945 is the day the Germans throughout Europe unconditionally surrendered to WW II Allies.

Armed Forces Day
Saturday, May 17^th
About: A single holiday for citizens to come together and thank our military members for their patriotic service in support of our country. It honors everyone serving in the U.S. Military branches; Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marines, Navy.

Memorial Day
Monday, May 26^th
About: A remembrance of our veterans. It commemorates the men and women who died while in military service.
